Key Concepts
Voltage Regulator Purpose
Maintains outgoing feeder voltage within limits as load changes. Compensates for both incoming and outgoing feeder voltage drops.
On-Load Tap Changer
Changes transformer turns ratio while energised. Diverter switch uses transition resistors for break-before-make switching. Each step = 1.25 %.
Feeder Voltage Drop
V = I × Z per segment. Current in each segment equals the sum of all downstream loads. Closer loads contribute to drops affecting distant loads.
Cumulative Voltage Profile
Voltage drops progressively along the feeder. The regulator compensates for incoming feeder drop and uses tap position to maintain its output voltage at the setpoint.
Line Drop Compensation
Estimates remote voltage using CT current × configured R/X settings. Lets the controller regulate remote voltage, not just local bus voltage.
