Estimated time1 Hour
FormatOnline, self-paced

Course Overview

This online, self-paced course covers the risks of respirable crystalline silica, the fine dust released when cutting, grinding or drilling materials such as concrete, stone, bricks, tiles and engineered stone. You will learn how silica dust is generated, the serious and irreversible lung diseases it can cause (including silicosis), and how exposure is assessed. It also covers practical dust controls such as water suppression, ventilation and respiratory protection, along with safe work practices for WA worksites. This is an awareness-level course for electricians and trades workers in Western Australia who may disturb silica-containing materials, and their supervisors. There is no fixed duration. On completing the knowledge assessment you receive a certificate, and the course counts toward CPD.
